FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

What is IgG + IgE Mediated Allergen Test?

IgE-mediated means that IgE allergy antibodies are a cause of the allergic reaction to a food. By contrast the signs and symptoms of IgE mediated food allergy usually occur within minutes of ingestion and include hives, redness of the skin, vomiting and in more severe reactions, anaphylaxis. IgG-mediated means the type III food allergy is when the immune system produces specific IgG antibodies (immune globulins of the subclass G). These antibodies can lead to inflammatory processes. The symptoms appear up to three days after the consumption of a trigger food.

Our certified licensed doctors and allergists have several types of allergy tests to determine how a patient’s body reacts to specific allergens. Your primary care physician may test you use blood tests, Skin Prick Test, food challenge tests, and allergy provocation tests.

The two main allergy tests that healthcare professionals widely use are allergy blood tests and Skin Prick Test. Both tests are effective ways to test for allergens, but there are some advantages to allergy blood testing that Skin Prick Test cannot provide.

What is Allergy?

When your immune system responds to something that is normally innocuous to most people, it is called an allergy. In general, your immune system defends you from harmful chemicals. However, if you come into touch with anything that your immune system perceives as a threat, histamine is released. Allergy symptoms are caused by the release of histamine and other chemicals.
